Crack Filling
We use a hot-apply, rubberized crack filler to treat exposed cracks -- a superior method to cold-apply products. The material is heated to approximately 400 degrees, poured into the crack and then torched to ensure a proper bond and surface smoothness.  It will then cool and harden inside, preventing moisture penetration.

Freeze-thaw cycles and other factors will inevitably cause asphalt to crack. An important step in preventing further damage is to fill these affected areas with hot-apply, rubberized crack filler. This will prevent moisture from penetrating into and underneath the asphalt surface. Crack filling is intended for areas where there is a single hairline crack or other minor cracking. If these areas have been neglected and the cracking has extended and become more “alligatored”, it is necessary to remove the affected areas and repave with hot asphalt mix. We use a material called Dura-Fill Heat Stabilized Crack Filler, which is heated to a temperature where it because a liquid and can be poured into the exposed joint or crack. It will then cool and harden inside the crack, preventing moisture penetration.

The material is pourted between 400 and 500 degrees.

Crack filling is intended for single "seamline" cracks like this, not extended "alligator" areas.  The patch in the distance was an alligator area that required a hot-asphalt patch.

We then take a torch to the material so that it is smooth and flat and evenly covers the crack.
